Governors

Welcome to the governors’ page of Masham Church of England (VA) School.  This page will tell you about our governors and their role in school.

Membership

The membership of our Governing Body is comprised of parents, school staff, and individuals connected to the local church and community.

The role of the Governing Body

The school governors are the strategic leaders of our school, and they have a key role in ensuring that each child thrives and receives the best possible education. Their core functions are:

  • To set the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school, and the performance management of staff;
  • To appoint the staff, agree the budget and make sure the school’s money is well spent.

Our governors bring a wide breadth of experience and expertise to our school. They know the school: its strengths and challenges, the data about progress and attainment, the staff and pupils, the parents and the community. They oversee the School Development Plan that identifies our priorities for the year, and drives change to improve outcomes for our pupils.

Interim Executive Board

Following the school’s recent Ofsted inspection and judgement, and as a result of the school’s Directive Academy Order, an Interim Executive Board (IEB) has replaced the Governing Board up until the point of the school’s academization.

The IEB fulfills the responsibilities of the Governing Board. This includes, but is not limited to, oversight of safeguarding, school improvement and facilitating the academy conversion of the school.

The IEB is made up of five members who are all highly experienced educational and governance professionals. Our role is to provide effective governance and leadership by bringing together a team of experienced individuals who can assist the school.

Emma Phillips is the Head of Safeguarding Partnerships at North Yorkshire Council.

Gemma Emmett has substantial experience of leading transformation within a local authority setting.

Liz Turnbull is Headteacher at Bedale CofE Primary School.

The Reverend Jane Ball is Vicar of Masham.

Barry Khan, Chair of the IEB, is the Assistant Chief Executive for Legal and Democratic Services with North Yorkshire Council.

The IEB meet with the school leadership team, Diocese of Leeds Education Team and North Yorkshire Local Authority Education Team monthly.

The interim leadership team at Masham, the interim Executive Headteacher (Jonathan Davies) and interim Head of School (Matthew Boyle) remain your points of contact for day-to-day matters. However, should you wish to contact the IEB, please email cofg@masham.n-yorks.sch.uk
