Masham School’s Governing Body has three core functions:
(i) To set the School’s vision, ethos and strategic direction;
(ii) To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the School, its pupils and the performance management of staff; and
iii) To ensure the School’s financial health, probity and value for money.
The Governors review the School’s strategic direction every two years.
In November 2019, the Governing Body agreed the School should:
(i) Develop the full academic, social, moral, spiritual and physical potential of each pupil. Ensure all pupils make good or very good progress and meet the needs of vulnerable groups, children with SEND, and high attaining pupils.
(ii) Recruit, retain and develop excellent staff.
(iii) Strive to be assessed by North Yorkshire County Council and Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’.
(iv) Develop the School’s distinctiveness and values as a Church of England school and be rated as excellent when next inspected as a church school.
(v) Continue to meet the demand for places for local children and, bearing in mind the likely extra housing in the town, provide additional internal and external facilities to match the increasing number on roll without losing the essential spirit of the School.
(vi) Work collaboratively with parents, the Church, the community, local schools and partners.
(vii) Keep up-to-date with national and local changes to school structures, and regularly review the School’s position.
